QA Manager

Overview:
Based in New York City and founded in 1999, Upoc Networks is the mobile-technology company powering most major North American wireless carriers' community messaging programs, and many consumer marketers' mobile-marketing campaigns. Recently acquired by Dada Mobile, S.p.A., a leader in the European mobile world, Upoc has experienced tremendous growth and is actively seeking an experienced QA leader to helm our talented team.

We are looking for a QA manager with 3-5 years of experience in leading QA teams. The ideal candidate will have experience with the selection and implementation of QA automation products, and mobile-application experience is a strong plus.

Our QA engineers are responsible for organizing and providing testing coverage of weekly maintenance releases, testing ongoing promotions and managing test schedules for upcoming SMS promotions. Applicants must have experience reading and writing functional specifications, and creating and maintaining test plans based on functional specifications.

Upoc maintains an aggressive release schedule. The applications managed include interactive SMS/MMS applications, ringtones, wallpapers, games, screensavers, WAP sites, Web sites and internal Web tools. Testing is done on mobile phone handsets, WAP emulators, Web browsers and an interactive voice-response system.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Manage the IT Quality Assurance group. This includes hiring, training, managing, mentoring and motivating team members and consultants
• Schedule all QA projects and prepare time- and resource-allocation estimates
• Plan, manage and participate in testing the Dada.net and Upoc.com suite of products
• Work with all aspects of the business, including all technology personnel (project management, software development, technical support, UNIX operations and help desk personnel), editorial, advertising and marketing personnel, and all levels of management
• Write test plans, functional decompositions, test cases and test scripts
• Perform analysis to select vendor for load- and automated-testing tools
• Write, execute and maintain automated tests using selected automation tool
• Write and execute load tests using selected load testing tool
• Review business requirements and technical specifications, and provide extensive input for all technology projects prior to development and testing
• Oversee QA group budget, propose purchases and write purchase-justification documentation
• Test Web and WAP-based software on a wide variety of platforms including Web browsers, WAP emulators and phone handsets
• Test non-Web-based software (batch-based software, billing applications, etc.) via UNIX (Sun Solaris) and direct interaction with the Oracle database via SQL
• Draft and distribute defect reports for development and management to ensure software problems are resolved correctly
• Manage and administer our defect tracking system
• Setup and maintain all aspects of a software-testing laboratory
• Interact with vendors of all types
• Create and maintain documentation of standard quality-assurance procedures and practices
• Test Web, SMS, MMS, WAP and interactive voice-response integrated system
• Test ringtones, wallpapers, screensavers and games on mobile devices
• Be willing to learn and thrive with a great team

Qualifications:
• Pro-active and creative; be able to think outside of the box
• Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
• BA or BS from accredited university
• QA automation experience required
• 3 years hands-on application testing; project management background preferred
• SMS, BREW, MMS experience a plus
• Ability to work well in a team environment

Senior Core Engineer

Overview:
At Upoc, Core Engineering is a multi-faceted department that spans both technical and business roles. You will be expected to handle a large list of tasks, including writing Java and SQL, architecting systems and troubleshooting production issues. In addition, you will be expected to interface with business team members for requirements gathering and data analysis.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in Software Development in a multi-threaded, high-throughput environment. Strong Java skills with an eye toward complex system interactions, SQL and analytical database skills. Must possess TOPLink Object Relational Mapping skills or equivalent. Cross-disciplinary debugging skills (i.e., Java, SQL, shell scripting and networking. Shell scripting is a plus). Must possess strong interpersonal skills for interactions with business team members, as well as confidence and technical fluency when communicating with other engineering team members.
