Text messaging isn't rocket science, but these tips will help you get the most out of your Upoc experience.
Less is More: The shorter the words, the
more stuff you can say. Many carriers only allow 80-120 characters, so keep
it short and sweet.
Spelling
Schmelling: This ain't grammar school. As
long as it's clear, they'll get the message -- no matter how you spell
it.
Cap-Happy: A message in all caps is
perceived as shouting, so unless you're really ticked off, or trying to
emphasize a word, go with lowercase.
Better Represent: Upoc prides itself on user anonymity -- that's why handles
are so, uh, handy. But with that comes the common sense to not reveal
personal information, like phone numbers, e-mails or full names. And don't
pretend to be someone you're not. Represent yourself honestly, and expect the
same of others.
Keep it on the PM: Group messages are just
that -- so be sure to send any text directed to one particular user as a PM
(personal message), not to the whole group. This will help groups to stay on
topic.
Act Your Age: Teen groups are for teens. Simple as that. If you are above 19, you will not be permitted to join a teen group, let alone start one. And if you are under 18, you are not allowed to participate in or start adult groups.
Topical Solution: Some groups are for saying whatever's on your mind, but
most are for discussing a specific subject, from hip-hop to hydrangeas -- and
everything in between. Posting off-topic messages is rude, so stay on topic
and you'll always be a welcome addition to any group. Remember, you can be
your own boss by creating groups yourself.
The Scoop on Dupes: Unless you want to lose
friends, you only need to send a message once. Duplicates can sometimes be
caused by a carrier bug, so contact your carrier if the dupes weren't of your
own doing.
Can the Spam: Spam is any unsolicited
e-mail, text or voice messages, including chain letters, advertising, or even
flooding a room or another user's inbox. Best to put a lid on it.
And don't forget ...
Play Nice: Any type of harrassment on
Upoc is not tolerated. This includes threatening, obscene, defamatory,
misleading, slanderous, offensive or unlawful material, or material that
violates anyone else's rights, including privacy. This goes for messages sent
both to a group or as a PM. That's a long list of what NOT to do, but abiding
by it will not only spare you from making enemies, but also from losing
your Upoc privileges.
