How to Read Your Messages
"My Upoc" is a personalized area that lets you quickly access messages
sent to you or to communities to which you belong, your address book
and your preference settings.
The main screen for "My Upoc" lists options for viewing your personalized content:
- All Messages shows your recent message history
- My Personal Messages shows messages sent directly to you
- My Groups shows messages sent to groups to which you belong
- My Channels shows messages sent to channels to which you belong
- My Alerts shows polls, invitations to join groups and other messages that require your attention
- Address Book lists your friends and family
- Block List shows the list of people from whom you don't want to receive messages
- Settings leads to your preferences for how you receive messages, how your profile is returned in searches and more
The first time you try to access one of your areas, you'll be asked
to either create an account or login to Upoc with an existing username
and password (such as an account you might have created on the Upoc
Web site).
Once you've logged in, your groups will be listed along with a timestamp
("Jan 12 02:03 PM"). The timestamp indicates the time that the last message
was sent to the group. That way, you can easily see which groups have active
discussions.
The following provides an example to illustrate how to read your messages.
By using your keypad to navigate and select options on screen
and on the Tip Bar*, you have access to view groups, read messages,
send and reply to messages, and more.
*The Tip Bar is located at the bottom of the screen. Depending on
what you are viewing, you will be able to select various options
to further help you navigate as well as perform additional functionality.
You can select the "1" and "3" keys to go to a previous ("1") or next ("3")
message, if available. You can also select the "2" key to bring up a list of
more options related to the message. For more on the Tip Bar option "2" key,
see below.
Reading Messages Example
From the "My Upoc" area, let's select "3" for "My Groups" to view messages
sent to groups to which you belong.
For our example, let's say you are a member of the group "AMERICAN IDOL CHAT."
This will appear in your list of groups. Select this group by pressing "OK"
from your keypad.
You will now see a screen, which shows a list of recent messages for this group,
"AMERICAN IDOL CHAT," along with the message sender, and the time the message
was sent.
Let's navigate to and select the second message in the list This will bring up
the message and the full message text.
By selecting the Tip Bar option "3," we will move to the next message in the group.
Using the Tip Bar option "2," a list of options are displayed.
We will now select option 1 (Reply) to the message. When replying to a message,
you have a choice of either replying directly to the sender of the message or to
the entire group. In our example, we select the group name from the drop down
list to send a message to the group handle, americanidol.
Once we finished entering the text in the message box, we press
"Submit" and the message is sent to all members of that group.

How to Change Your Message Settings
When you join a group or channel, your default message setting status is
"Auto-start Upoc." (This may vary depending on your carrier and handset.)
"Auto-start Upoc" means that you want your Upoc to start up on your mobile
phone when it receives text messages sent from your groups, channels or friends.
If you switch your message setting to "Send me SMS only," your messages will
be sent as regular text messages to your mobile phone. You can also read
your messages using the Upoc application or on Upoc.com.
If you switch your message setting to "Don't alert me," your messages will
be available within the application only, or on Upoc.com, but will not be
delivered to your phone.
You can switch messages Off/On for specific groups and channels by
selecting the group or channel, pressing the "2" key to bring up
the "2" Options menu, selecting "Messages On/Off" and switching
the message delivery to "On" or "Off".
You can also turn off all your messages by going to:
